Zondag had ik een dagtrip naar Mount Field. Die beviel me niet zo, mede door de slechte toergids en groep. In Mount Field liepen de kleinste soort kangoeroes rond: pademelons. Kangoeroes zijn de grootste, wallaby’s zijn een kleinere soort en pademelons zijn de kleinste. Mount Field is gekend om de grote bomen (Tall Trees Walk en Lake Dobson Alpine Walk gedaan) en Russell Falls. Daarna zijn we naar een Wildlife Sanctuary gegaan. Daar waren koala’s, kangoeroes, Tasmaanse duivels, wombats, opossums, Tamaanse gemaskerde uilen en meer. Hier mochten we een koala en baby wombat aaien, maar niets vasthouden. Er leven ook 3 platypussen, maar die hebben we helaas niet gezien. Als laatste gingen we nog naar Mount Wellington, de berg die ik vorige maand beklommen heb.
Maandag had ik een dagtrip naar Freycinet National Park. Betere gids en groep deze keer en kwam voor de eerste keer in 2 maand tijd een Belg tegen. Tijdens de heenrit stopten we regelmatig en zijn dan begonnen met klimmen tot Wineglass Bay Lookout. In het terugkeren kwamen we een wallaby tegen op de parkeerplaats. Lunch bij Honeymoon Bay. Daarna nog naar Sleepy Bay gegaan en naar Cape Tourville Lookout gewandeld. Op de terugweg naar Hobart zijn we een baby echidna tegengekomen. De echidna is zoals de platypus een zoogdier die eieren legt. Als laatste zijn we een ijsje gaan eten bij Kate’s Berry Farm.
Dinsdag heb ik wat in Hobart rondgewandeld en gerust.
On Saturday I went to Hobart by bus. On the way there we stopped in Ross (historic village). I had booked 4 nights in Central City Backpackers (YHA was fully booked). Well situated, but noisy. That day I walked around a bit.
On Sunday I had a daytrip to Mount Field. I did not like it much, mainly because of the bad tour guide and group. In Mount Field there was the smallest kind of kangaroos: pademelons. Kangaroos are the biggest, wallabies are smaller and pademelons are the smallest. Mount Field is known for the large trees (we did the Tall Trees Walk and Lake Dobson Alpine Walk) and Russell Falls. Afterwards we went to a Wildlife Sanctuary. They had koalas, kangaroos, Tasmanian devils, wombats, possums, Tasmanian masked owls and more. We got to pet a koala and a baby wombat, but could not hold anything. 3 platypuses live here as well, but unfortunately we did not see them. To end the day we went to Mount Wellington, the mountain I climbed last month. On Monday I had a daytrip to Freycinet National Park. A better guide and group this time and I encountered a Belgian for the first time in 2 months. On the way there we regularly stopped and then we started climbing up to Wineglass Bay Lookout. On the way back we encountered a wallaby on the parking lot. Had lunch at Honeymoon Bay. Afterwards we went to Sleepy Bay and walked to Cape Tourville Lookout. On the way back to Hobart we encountered a baby echidna. The echidna is a mammal that lays eggs, like the platypus. To end the day we went for an ice cream at Kate’s Berry Farm.
On Tuesday I walked around a bit in Hobart and rested.
